See local artist Nathan Swenson’s wares at the Gloucester Guildhall exhibition Spaces, Places and Memories.

If you’re out and about in Gloucester this January, swing by Gloucester Guildhall and you’ll be able to see scenes of vast and intricate spaces lost in everyday life – thanks to the Spaces, Places and Memories exhibition by Nathan Swenson.

The exhibition’s paintings are said to be based on how places are perceived and understood. Incorporating memories and dreams, the art combines many levels of observation, with bright colours fighting against a harsh hessian background.

The artist behind the event says viewpoints that capture our imagination do not have to be extravagant. In everyday life there are continuous changes of colour, light and depth which can transform normal scenes into diverse spaces.

Nathan Swenson studied in Stroud, now based in Gloucester, and considers art a language. With a bit of time he believes that everyone can begin to understand it and be affected by its content. He wants the audience, furthermore, to become involved in his work, creating their own ideas and thoughts of what it means to them.

Influenced by artists as diverse as Anselm Kiefer and Diego Velázquez, find out whether this local talent lives up to expectations during his Gloucester Guildhall exhibition.
